National Trail Day at Ireland Brook Conservation Area, North Brunswick NJ - Jun 4, 2022

Liberty for Sight: Breaking the Guinness World Record for "the longest chain of spectacles" - May 1, 2022

International Book Project - Mar 2022
Who would have thought that in the middle of winter we would get a beautiful warm day where Lions & Leos were able to get together safely in open space to prepare donated book for shipment to Philippines. With continued reliance on technology, kids are spending more and more time in front of computers and phones. But there's nothing more rewarding and relaxing than holding a physical book in your hands, flipping the pages one by one, and enjoying the content. |
John A. Phillips Park and Preserve Park Clean Up - Nov 6, 2021
Link to Newsletter: ICEPN
On Saturday, 20 plus Edison Metro Lions Club members got together at John A. Phillips Park & Preserve in Old Bridge for the Fall Trails Day cleaning. Our club, Lions and Leos, were assigned to help removing invasive species tree called "Ailanthus" and managing against the spotted lanternfly. The tree which is most preferred by the spotted lanternfly is known as the tree-of-heaven and also called "Ailanthus". By removing the Ailanthus tree, it will help to slowdown spread of spotted lanternfly. The spotted lanternfly became an extremely invasive species which caused extensive damage to trees. Spotted lanternfly are considered to be a serious pest, because they feed on the sap of trees, often weakening them, and in some cases causing them to die completely. Our club was able to removed hundreds of spotted lanternfly from tree trunk during the cleanup.

Lean On Lions - April 2021
In times of need, communities lean on Lions and Leos. It has been over a year since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic and the world began to change drastically. On March 30, 2020, American singer and songwriter Bill Withers passed away, and his song "Lean On Me" has taken on even stronger meaning as people find new ways to connect while social distancing. Through it all, Lions continue to serve. We serve no matter what the circumstances. Where there's a need, there's a Lion to lean on. |

Cross-Ocean Hand-in-Hand Tutoring Program - Summer 2020
Cross-Ocean Hand-in-Hand is a tutoring program created by Edison Metro Lions Club. The mission of this program is to offer a free and effective English tutoring for less privileged students in China. The participating Leos tutor weekly over Zoom or wechat, discussing topics such as food, vacation spots, culture, sports and more! While our friends in China improve their English and are exposed to American culture, we Leos learn how to be more effective in teaching, making presentations, team collaborating, and managing time throughout the week. The program is beneficial to both Leos and our friends in China. In the future, we hope to expand this Cross-Ocean Hand-in-Hand program. |

A few times every year, the Leos perform music and dance for the residents of Menlo Park Veterans Home. In the summertime, the Leos go visit and perform for them on a bi-weekly basis. However, due to coronavirus, we cannot currently visit them in person. So, many of our Leos sent in a video of their performances, which were compiled into an hour-long video sent to the Veterans Home. It features our Leos singing, dancing, and playing multiple instruments, including violin, piano, clarinet. We look forward to returning to the Veterans Home soon to perform in person!
